Deep in the murky lake swamps of the Khanate of Barbi, a truly unique and grotesque creature, known as the Spiderfrog, lurks. A Large Monstrosity that can be smelled from a great distance!

Description

These creatures are a peculiar sight to behold, embodying a blend of bizarre features that make them both fascinating and repulsive.

A Spiderfrog is a Large monstrosity that are notorious for their pungent aroma, which can be detected from a great distance. They stand on eight long, sinewy legs that culminate in flat, webbed feet, enabling them to traverse the treacherous sludge of the swamps with surprising ease. However, despite their remarkable mobility on sludge, they cannot walk on water, and their flat feet leave a distinctive imprint as they move.

One of the Spiderfrog’s most distinctive traits is its obsession with self-preservation. To protect themselves from predators and camouflage within their putrid habitat, Spiderfrogs cover their bulbous bodies with rotting vegetable matter. This macabre practice not only provides them with a crude form of natural armor but also aids in hiding them amidst the decaying vegetation of the swamp.

This large monstrosity is typically found in small groups of 2d4, you might find Spiderfrog males congregating, croaking loudly as they vie for the attention of a nearby female. Female Spiderfrogs are an exception to this as they are always solitary, and a bit larger (add 25hp to total). It’s during these communal gatherings that the noxious odor of the Spiderfrogs is most overpowering.

Their tadpoles, which hatch in the lake’s murky waters, are considered a delicacy by the local citizens. This has led to a delicate balance between the preservation of the species and the culinary desires of the region’s inhabitants.

Approaching a Spiderfrog is not for the faint of heart, as the stench that emanates from these creatures is enough to deter most intruders. Those who dare venture into their territory will find themselves in the presence of a truly bizarre and memorable creature of the swamps.

Hold Breath. The Spiderfrog can hold its breath for 15 minutes.

Spider Climb. The Spiderfrog can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.

Challenge 5 (1,800 XP)

Actions

Tongue. Melee Weapon Attack: +7 to hit, reach 15 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d8 + 4) bludgeoning damage. If the target is Medium or smaller, it is grappled (escape DC 15), and the Spiderfrog can’t use its tongue on another target until this grapple ends.

Acid Spit (Recharge 5-6). The Spiderfrog spits a glob of purple acid at a single foe it can see within 60 feet. The target must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 36 (8d8) acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. On a failed save, the target is also blinded until the end of its next turn.
